# Change the background

Pick a background under Look in Simple, or in Pro under Scene › Background: a photo, a gradient, a solid colour, a soft mesh, a live scene, or your own picture.

Where to find it: Video editor › Pro › Scene › Background

## In Simple

Under **Look**, the row of swatches holds six backgrounds that suit most recordings, then **any colour** and **a picture of your own**. Click one. When the video wears a background the row does not offer, it comes first, lit.

## In Pro

1. Open **Scene › Background**.
2. Pick a family: **None**, **Mesh**, **Gradient**, **Solid**, **Image** or **Live**.
3. Pick a background from that family, or make your own. Gradients and solids have a custom colour. Image has the wallpaper shelf and **Use your own image**.

- **None**: No background behind the recording.
- **Mesh**: Soft blended colours, like Dusk.
- **Gradient**: A smooth blend between colours. Make your own with **Custom gradient**.
- **Solid**: One colour, from a set of quiet tones or your own.
- **Image**: A photo from the wallpaper shelf, or your own picture.
- **Live**: A scene that moves, looping for the whole video. See [Live backgrounds](https://pointercam.com/help/live-backgrounds).

## Blur and movement

- **Background blur** softens a photo or your own picture, so the recording stands out from it.
- **Animate the background** makes a still background drift slowly while the video plays: **Drift** wanders, **Swirl** turns about the centre, **Breathe** swells and settles. **Speed** and **Amount** set how fast and how far.

> **Tip:** A style can carry the background to your next video. See [Styles](https://pointercam.com/help/styles).
