# Fade the edges

Edges fades the recording into its background from the top, the bottom, the sides or all round, or fades everything to transparent for an overlay.

Where to find it: Video editor › Pro › Scene › Edges

Open **Scene › Edges** and pick **Fade top**, **Fade bottom**, **Fade sides** or **Fade edges**. **None** turns it off.

What it fades:

- **The recording**: The recording and its frame dissolve into the background. Your camera and callouts stay sharp.
- **Everything**: The whole picture fades to transparent, background included, for a video that will sit on top of something else.

- **Falloff** shapes the fade: **Soft**, **Natural**, **Even** or **Hard**.
- **Adjust** sets each edge’s fade, and a vignette’s size, reach and roundness.
