# Blur, pixelate or cover something private

Hide part of the recording for exactly as long as it shows. Point at it to cover it, or draw a box, then choose Blur, Pixelate or a solid cover.

Where to find it: Video editor › Pro › Cuts & Privacy › Privacy

1. Move the playhead to where the private thing shows.
2. In Simple, find **Hide something** under **Privacy**. In Pro, open **Cuts & Privacy › Privacy**. Or press **Add** on the timeline and choose **Hide something**.
3. Choose **Point at it** and click the thing on the preview, or **Draw a box** and drag it into place. Pointing covers that element for as long as it is on screen.
4. Choose how to hide it: **Blur**, **Pixelate** or **Solid**.
5. Drag the cover’s ends on the timeline to change when it shows.

- **Blur**: Softens the pixels.
- **Pixelate**: Averages them away.
- **Solid**: Replaces them with a colour: Ink, Slate, Ash or Paper.
- **Strength**: How strongly it hides, the same at any resolution.
- **Corners**: **Square** or **Round**.
- **Follow the page**: Keeps the cover on its content as the page scrolls. Off, it stays where you drew it.

- Covers can overlap, since two private things are often on screen together.
- **Hidden in this video** lists every cover. Select several to change how they all hide.
- Press `⌫` to delete the selected cover.

> **Warning:** A cover only hides what it covers. Play the take through before you share it.

> **Tip:** Chrome takes notice password and email fields as you record and offer to cover them. See [Hide passwords and private fields](https://pointercam.com/help/sensitive-fields).
