# Highlight something, or each click

Dim the rest of the recording round a box so what is in it stands out, or do it before every click. All of them share one look, and any one can keep its own.

Where to find it: Video editor › Pro › Cursor › Highlights

## Before every click

In Simple, switch on **Highlight before clicks** under Done for you. In Pro it is under **Cursor › Highlights**. A moment before each click the rest of the picture dims round what is about to be clicked, and lifts as the click lands.

- It works on Chrome and Mac takes: both record what each click landed on.
- Off takes those highlights away again. One you placed yourself stays.
- Each one is on the **Highlights** lane, to move, trim or delete like any other.

## Highlight something yourself

1. Move the playhead to where it should start.
2. Press **Draw a box** beside **Add a highlight**, or **Add › Highlight something** on the timeline. On a Chrome take, **Point at it** and click the thing on the preview instead: the highlight stays on it as the page moves.
3. Drag the box onto what it points at, and its ends on the timeline to set how long.

## One look for every highlight

Every highlight wears the same look, and a new video starts on **Float**. Set it in Pro under **Cursor › Highlights**, in **Every highlight**. In Simple, once there is a highlight, **Highlight look** and **Wash** set it too.

- **Float**: What is highlighted floats up round, in a soft glow, while the rest greys a little and softens.
- **Dim**: The rest darkens round a clean box with a thin line.
- **Spotlight**: A soft round pool of light, with the rest in shade.
- **Blur**: The rest goes out of focus and what is in the box stays sharp.
- **Lift**: What is highlighted rises toward you over a soft shadow, with the rest softened behind it.
- **Mono**: The rest loses its colour.
- **Glow**: A light round the box, as if it were lit from inside.

Under the looks, **Wash** is the colour the rest fades into: **Shade**, **Light** for a pale wash, **Iris**, or any colour. **Dim the rest** sets how far it fades.

## Adjust it

- **Blur the rest**: Softens everything outside the box.
- **Grey the rest**: Takes the colour out of everything outside the box.
- **Soft edge**: From a clean cut round the box to a wide soft edge.
- **Room**: Space left round what is highlighted, so it is not cut tight.
- **Corners**: From square to round.
- **Lift**: How far what is highlighted rises, larger over a soft shadow. **Float** lifts it 100%, and it goes to 200%.
- **Edge**: **None**, a thin **Line** or a soft **Glow**, in the colour you pick.
- **Fade**: How long it takes to come in and to go. It is never more than a third of the highlight.

## One highlight its own way

1. Select the highlight on the **Highlights** lane or on the preview.
2. Change its look in its panel. What you change there is that highlight's own, and the others keep the shared look.
3. Press **Use for all** to make its look every highlight's, or **Reset** to give it the shared look again.

In **Cursor › Highlights**, **Use this on all** gives every highlight the shared look again.

- **Hide or Highlight**: The same box either way: **Hide** covers what is under it instead.

> **Tip:** The pointer, your callouts and your camera stay bright over the dim, since they are yours.
