# The Mac app cannot record my screen

macOS needs Screen & System Audio Recording turned on for PointerCam Capture. Turn it on in System Settings, then reopen PointerCam if macOS asks.

Only in the Mac app. This is about the Mac app’s permissions. For Chrome’s, see [My microphone or camera is not working](https://pointercam.com/help/camera-or-mic-not-working).

Where to find it: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording

1. Open **System Settings** on your Mac and go to **Privacy & Security**.
2. Choose **Screen & System Audio Recording**.
3. Turn on **PointerCam Capture**. This is the part of PointerCam that records. macOS lists it under that name.
4. If macOS offers to quit and reopen PointerCam, let it.

## Already on, and still not working?

An older copy of PointerCam may be the one switched on. In the same list, select PointerCam Capture, remove it with the minus button, then start a recording again so macOS asks afresh.

You can see every permission PointerCam has in **Settings › Help & contact › Permissions**.

## The other permissions

- **Accessibility**: Lets guide steps say what you clicked, like Click “Save”. Optional. macOS lists it as PointerCam Capture.
- **Microphone**: For your voice over a take. Optional.
- **Camera**: For your face in a corner of the video. Optional.
