# Update the Mac app

The Mac app checks for updates by itself. Choose Check for Updates… in the PointerCam menu to look now, and pick how updates install in Settings.

Only in the Mac app. Chrome keeps PointerCam up to date by itself, as it does every extension.

Where to find it: PointerCam menu › Check for Updates…

1. Open the **PointerCam** menu and choose **Check for Updates…**
2. When an update is ready, choose **Restart to Update…** in the PointerCam menu or the menu bar icon. If you keep working, it installs the next time you quit, or by itself when your Mac is idle.

> **Note:** An update never restarts PointerCam during a recording, an import or an export. It waits for them to finish.

## Choose how updates arrive

- **Check for updates automatically**: Looks for a new version when PointerCam opens, every two hours, and when your Mac wakes.
- **Download and install updates**: Gets a new version ready in the background, and installs it when PointerCam is free.

Both are under **Settings › Help & contact › Updates**, with **Check now** and the update’s progress.
