# Pause, stop or discard a take

Every take has a small bar with the clock, Draw, Pause, Stop and Discard, and keys that work from anywhere. The Mac app keeps its bar out of the video.

Where to find it in the Mac app: During a take › The bar › Stop

Where to find it in the Chrome extension: During a take › The bar on the page › Stop

- **Pause**: Holds the take. Press it again to resume. Nothing from the pause is in the video.
- **Stop**: Ends the take and opens it in the editor.
- **Discard**: Ends the take and throws it away.
- **Draw**: Turns the pointer into a pen until you press it again or press `Esc`.

**In the Mac app:**

The bar floats over your screen and is never in the video, and the menu bar icon shows the clock. Its menu has **Stop Recording**, **Pause** and **Discard Recording** too.

- `⌘⇧2`: Stop and save, from any app
- `⌥⇧D`: Draw on the screen

**In the Chrome extension:**

In a tab take the bar sits at the bottom of the page you are recording, so it is in the video, resting as a small red dot until you point at it. In a window or screen take, use the popup: click PointerCam in the toolbar for **Stop and edit**, **Pause** and **Discard**.

To stop without the bar opening in the video, press `⇧⌘S` or use the popup.

- `⇧⌘S`: Stop, from any tab
- `⌥⇧D`: Draw on the page

> **Tip:** Chrome lets you change these keys at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

> **Note:** On the free plan a video stops itself at 10 minutes and is saved. Hover over the clock to see why. A take for a guide has no limit.
