# Remove long pauses

PointerCam finds the stretches where nothing is said or done and offers to take them out. You choose what counts as a pause, and anything removed can come back.

Where to find it: Video editor › Pro › Cuts & Privacy › Cuts and pauses

## From Simple

When a take has long pauses, Simple suggests **Remove 3 long pauses**, with how much time it saves. Only pauses over 2 seconds count there.

- **Remove** takes them all out at once.
- **Show me** marks them on the timeline and goes to the first, so you can check before removing anything.

## With more control, in Pro

1. Open **Cuts & Privacy › Cuts and pauses** and find **Find the dead air**.
2. Choose what a pause is: **Silence**, **No activity**, or both at once, where a stretch has to be quiet and still.
3. Set **Sensitivity**, from Cautious to Eager, the **Shortest gap** to take out, and how much of each gap to **Leave** so words do not land hard against each other.
4. Press **Mark** to mark the gaps it found, check them on the timeline, then press **Remove** for the marked gaps. Nothing is removed until you say so, and **Drop the marks** leaves the take as it was.

**Removed** lists every stretch the piece leaves out. Any of them can be put back.

> **Warning:** A take recorded without your voice is silent all the way through, so **Silence** on its own marks all of it. Turn on **No activity** as well, and check the length it shows before you press **Remove**.

> **Tip:** You can also drag across the audio lane to mark a stretch by hand.
