# Speed up or slow down part of the video

Make any stretch play from 0.25× to 8×, such as a slow upload or a long form. The video’s length changes to match.

Where to find it: Video editor › Pro › Timeline › + › Speed change

1. Move the playhead to the slow part.
2. Press **+** on the timeline and choose **Speed change**, or double-click the pacing lane. A block lands on the pacing lane.
3. Drag its ends to cover the stretch.
4. Pick a **Speed**. Quick picks are 0.25×, 0.5×, 1×, 1.5×, 2×, 4×, 8×. Under 1× slows it down.

- The speed chip on the timeline’s toolbar says how fast the video plays at the playhead.
- Where a cut overlaps a speed change, the cut wins.
- Above 4×, the preview plays at 4× and muted, but the exported video is exact.
