# Save a subtitle file for YouTube

Save your captions as an .srt beside the exported video, for YouTube’s own captions, or as .srt or .vtt from the Captions section.

Where to find it: Video editor › Export › More options

## With the export

1. Press **Export**, then **More options**.
2. Turn on **Also save a subtitle file**. An .srt is saved beside the video.
3. Export as usual.

## On its own

In **Audio & Captions › Captions**, choose **Save as .srt** or **Save as .vtt**.

> **Tip:** Upload the .srt to YouTube with the video. Viewers can switch the captions on or off, YouTube can translate them, and search engines can read them.
