# Trim, split and cut out mistakes

Drag the ends of the footage to trim it. Press S to split it in two, X to cut a second at the playhead, or hold Shift and drag across a stretch to remove it.

Where to find it: Video editor › Pro › Timeline › Split

## Trim the start or the end

In Pro, click the footage on the timeline to pick it, then drag its left or right end. The rest of the video follows.

## Split and cut

- `S`: Split the piece under the playhead in two, keeping every frame
- `X`: Cut one second out at the playhead, so the video gets shorter

Both are also on the timeline’s toolbar, as **Split** and **Cut**. Double-clicking a piece splits it there too.

## Remove a stretch

1. Hold `⇧` and drag across the footage on the timeline. The stretch is marked.
2. Choose to remove it. Or zoom over exactly that stretch instead.

> **Note:** The original recording is never changed. Everything you trim or cut is still there, and **Restore trims and cuts** in the timeline’s **⋯** menu puts it all back.
