1.0.1

Coming soonChrome extension

Guides now follow the keyboard, join steps across a scroll, and know where each step plays in the video.

Steps for the keys you press

Enter to submit a form, a field you reached with Tab and filled in, Esc, Space on a checkbox and shortcuts like ⌘V each become a step of the guide. The letters you type are never recorded.

How it works

Join steps into one

Join with the next step makes one step that does both, with both steps’ words. When the page scrolled between them, each keeps its own picture, numbered 3.1 and 3.2, and Pictures lays them out side by side, stacked or two across.

How it works

A guide that knows its video

Each step says where it plays in the video as you edited it, and opens the video there. The guide’s web page and Markdown can link each step to that moment on YouTube, Vimeo, Loom or Wistia.

How it works

New

  • A guide has a step for each key that did something: Enter, a field reached with Tab and filled in, Esc, Space on a checkbox or switch, and shortcuts. Typed letters are never recorded. How it works
  • A step you scrolled to says so, like Scroll down and click “Billing history”, and an arrow on the edge of its picture points the way.How it works
  • Pictures, above a joined step’s picture, lays the step’s pictures out together: Separate, Side by side, Stacked, Two across, or the first one large on top or on the left. The PDF, Word file, web page and Markdown all print the layout you pick. How it works
  • Beside each step’s title, a tag says where the step plays in the edited video, like 0:35 in the video, and opens the video editor there. A step whose moment you cut says Not in the video. How it works
  • Video link, under Document, links each step of the guide’s web page and Markdown to its moment in the video, on YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Wistia or your own site. How it works
  • When you export a whole video that has a guide, the finished screen offers Copy chapters: chapters from the guide’s sections or steps, ready for a YouTube description. How it works

Improved

  • Join with the next step makes one step that does both and keeps both steps’ words. Split brings back the steps it was made from. How it works
  • A joined step’s pictures are numbered 3.1 and 3.2 on the strip, the stage and the timeline, and its numbered marks read the same. The spotlight lights every mark on the picture. How it works
  • Each row of the guide’s Pro column opens the one setting it names. How it works
  • The help center has new articles on joining steps and on keeping a guide and its video together, and new demos of the guide editor. How it works
  • The privacy policy names the keys a recording notes, and says that which letters you type is never recorded.Read the policy

Fixed

  • Number the steps shows its numbers in the editor as well as in the files: beside the step’s heading, and on a joined step’s marks. How it works
  • A step that clicks a menu item is named by the item’s name, without the description under it or the hint beside it run into the name. How it works
