PointerCam vs Cursorful
A Cursorful alternative that makes the guide too.
Cursorful and PointerCam both turn your clicks into zooms. PointerCam also turns the same recording into a step-by-step guide, and its free plan includes your microphone, your camera as a bubble, and the Mac app.
Choose Cursorful if
- You’d rather pay once. Cursorful Pro is $79 a seat, one time, at its launch price.
- You need a desktop app on Windows. Cursorful has one for Mac and Windows, on Pro.
- You want free exports with no watermark for personal projects. Cursorful’s free plan has none, for non-commercial use.
- You record in Edge or Brave, or on Linux.
- You want share links. Cursorful Pro streams exports from its cloud.
Choose PointerCam if
- You need a step-by-step guide from the recording, as PDF, Word, a web page or Markdown.
- You’re new to editing video. The editor opens in Simple, with the close-ups already placed and the video ready to export.
- You talk over your videos on the free plan. Cursorful lists the microphone and camera under Pro, and PointerCam’s free plan records both.
- You want the Mac app without paying. Cursorful’s desktop apps come with Pro, and PointerCam’s Mac app is free.
- You want a screenshot editor, with arrows, numbered badges and redaction, for any frame of the take.

The same recording, as a guide
Cursorful makes the video. PointerCam makes the video and, from the same clicks, a numbered guide: each step a close-up of the screen with a box round what you pressed and a line saying what you clicked. Export it as PDF, Word, a web page or Markdown, free.
So one take covers the demo and the written instructions, for a customer, a coworker or a help center.

An editor made for your first video
PointerCam opens a recording already finished: close-ups on your clicks, every click marked, ready to export. The editor starts in Simple, which shows what was done and the choices most videos make, one row each, like zoom strength, captions or the background.
The first time you open it, a short tour points out each part. When you want more, Pro lays out every setting, and ⌘K finds any of them by what it changes or by a problem you type, like “silence”.

Your voice and camera on the free plan
Cursorful’s pricing lists microphone and camera support under Pro. PointerCam’s free plan records your microphone and your camera, as a bubble in the corner you pick, in the shape, size and ring you choose. Studio adds every other camera layout.
A Mac app on the free plan
Cursorful’s desktop apps, for Mac and Windows, come with Pro. They record any app and redraw the pointer after you record.
PointerCam’s Mac app does that on the free plan: it records any app with system audio, follows your clicks in every app, and draws the pointer after the take, so you can restyle it or use your own. On Windows, PointerCam records in Chrome with the extension.
Where Cursorful is the better pick
Cursorful’s free plan has no watermark, for non-commercial use, and Pro is a one-time payment. It runs in Edge and Brave as well as Chrome, on Linux too, and Pro adds a Windows app and share links.
If you want those, choose Cursorful. If you want the guide, the free Mac app or your camera on the free plan, choose PointerCam. Studio is $10 a month yearly or $20 monthly, or $9 for 7 days, paid once.
