Screen Studio vs Cursorful
Screen Studio or Cursorful? Start with where you record.
Both zoom in on your clicks. Screen Studio is a Mac app with every feature on both of its paid plans and no free plan. Cursorful is a browser extension, free for non-commercial use, and its Pro plan, paid once, adds apps for Mac and Windows. PointerCam, which we make, is a third option if you also need a step-by-step guide.
Choose Screen Studio if
- You record on a Mac and want one app for all of it, including iPhones and iPads over a USB cable.
- You edit by transcript, or want your webcam cut out from its background.
- You share by link, with comments on the exact second and view counts.
Choose Cursorful if
- You record in the browser: Chrome, Edge or Brave, on Linux too.
- You want free exports with no watermark, for non-commercial use.
- You’d rather pay once. Pro is $79 a seat at its launch price, with apps for Mac and Windows.
Choose PointerCam if
- You need a step-by-step guide from the same recording, as PDF, Word, a web page or Markdown.
- You’re new to editing video. The editor opens in Simple, with the close-ups already placed and the video ready to export.
- You talk over your videos on the free plan. PointerCam’s free plan records your microphone and your camera as a bubble.
- You want a free Mac app that follows your clicks in every app.

A Mac app, or the browser
Screen Studio runs only on macOS, and its FAQ says there are no near-future plans for Windows. It records any app on your Mac, and iPhones and iPads over a cable.
Cursorful records in the browser, in Chrome, Edge or Brave, on Linux as well as Windows and Mac. Its desktop apps for Mac and Windows, which record any app, come with Pro.
What each costs
Screen Studio has no free plan. Both of its plans have every feature: $9 a month billed yearly, which is $108 a year, or $29 month to month.
Cursorful’s free plan has no time limit and no watermark, for non-commercial use. Pro is $79 a seat, paid once, at its launch price (its list price is $119), and adds the desktop apps, your microphone and camera, 4K and share links.
Where PointerCam fits
PointerCam zooms in on your clicks too, in Chrome on Windows or a Mac, and in its Mac app. Every recording also becomes a step-by-step guide, with a step for each click, that you export as PDF, Word, a web page or Markdown.
Its free plan records your microphone and camera and exports with a small mark. Studio is $10 a month yearly or $20 monthly, or $9 for 7 days, paid once. It has no share links: you export files.

An editor made for your first video
PointerCam opens a recording already finished: close-ups on your clicks, every click marked, ready to export. The editor starts in Simple, which shows what was done and the choices most videos make, one row each, like zoom strength, captions or the background.
The first time you open it, a short tour points out each part. When you want more, Pro lays out every setting, and ⌘K finds any of them by what it changes or by a problem you type, like “silence”.
