PointerCam vs FocuSee
A FocuSee alternative that writes the steps too.
FocuSee is an app for Windows and Mac that zooms in on your clicks and typing, sold by subscription or once, with a trial that exports one video. PointerCam places close-ups on your clicks in Chrome or in its Mac app, exports on a free plan, and turns the same recording into a step-by-step guide.
Choose FocuSee if
- You record any app on Windows. FocuSee has apps for Windows and Mac.
- You want zooms that follow your typing as well as your clicks, 3D motion, or an AI avatar in place of your camera.
- You record phones and tablets as well as your computer.
- You want a teleprompter on screen while you record.
- You pay yearly: FocuSee Standard is $49.99 a year, and Studio $120. FocuSee also sells a license you pay for once.
Choose PointerCam if
- You want to use it properly before paying. FocuSee’s trial exports one video, and PointerCam’s free plan exports 10-minute videos at up to 1080p, as many as you like.
- You need the written steps too, as PDF, Word, a web page or Markdown, from the same recording.
- You’re new to editing video. The editor opens in Simple, with the close-ups already placed and the video ready to export.
- You work in the browser. PointerCam’s Chrome extension records a tab, a window or your whole screen, on Windows or a Mac.

Use it before you pay
FocuSee’s free trial lets you explore its standard features and export one video, and its AI features need a paid plan and credits. Standard, for one computer, is $49.99 a year or $19.99 a month, and a one-time license is sold too.
PointerCam’s free plan has the same editor as Studio, with no limit on how many videos you export. Each runs up to 10 minutes at up to 1080p with a small PointerCam mark, and guides have no length limit. Studio removes the mark and the limits for $10 a month yearly or $20 monthly, and a pass is $9 for 7 days, paid once.
Record where you already work
FocuSee is a desktop app for Windows 10 and later, and macOS 10.15 and later.
PointerCam’s Chrome extension records a tab, a window or your whole screen, in Chrome on Windows or on a Mac, and follows your clicks on web pages. On a Mac, the PointerCam app records any app and follows your clicks in all of them.

An editor made for your first video
PointerCam opens a recording already finished: close-ups on your clicks, every click marked, ready to export. The editor starts in Simple, which shows what was done and the choices most videos make, one row each, like zoom strength, captions or the background.
The first time you open it, a short tour points out each part. When you want more, Pro lays out every setting, and ⌘K finds any of them by what it changes or by a problem you type, like “silence”.

One recording, a video and a guide
Every click in a PointerCam recording also becomes a numbered step in a guide: a close-up of the screen with a box round what you pressed, and a line that already says what you clicked, like Click “Billing”. Change the words, add tips and warnings, then export it as PDF, Word, a web page or Markdown.
FocuSee makes the video. For written steps you would need a second tool beside it.

Where FocuSee is ahead
FocuSee has an app for Windows, zooms that follow your typing, 3D motion, AI avatars, a teleprompter, phone and tablet recording, webcam background removal and share links.
If those are what you record with, FocuSee is the better pick. If you work in Chrome, want a free plan that exports, or need the guide, PointerCam is.
