Loom vs Scribe
Loom or Scribe: will they watch or read?
Loom records video messages that people watch from a link. Scribe captures your clicks as a written guide with a screenshot for each step. They do different jobs. PointerCam, which we make, records once and gives you both: a video with close-ups on your clicks, and the guide.
Choose Loom if
- You send quick updates that people watch from a link, with comments and emoji reactions.
- You want to see who watched, with Loom’s viewer insights.
- You record meetings, or need apps for Windows, iOS or Android.
Choose Scribe if
- People follow the steps at their own pace, reading as they work.
- Your team keeps its guides in one shared place, with links, embeds and version history.
- You want guides made from work you already did, with Scribe’s AI autocapture.
Choose PointerCam if
- You want both from one recording: a video with a close-up on each click, and a guide with a step for each.
- You want both without paying. The free plan exports 10-minute videos, and guides of any length as PDF or Word.
- You’re new to editing video. The editor opens in Simple, with the close-ups already placed and the video ready to export.
- You’d rather keep files on your computer, with no account.

A video to watch, or steps to read
A Loom is a recording of your screen and your voice, often your face, that someone watches from a link. It suits a quick explanation, an update or feedback, where how you say it matters.
A Scribe is a list of steps, each with a screenshot and a line saying what to do, made from your clicks. It suits a process someone repeats, following along at their own pace.
What each costs
Loom’s free Starter plan allows 25 videos of up to 5 minutes each. Business, with unlimited videos and downloads, is $18 a person a month, up to 17% less yearly, and Business + AI, which turns videos into documents, is $24.
Scribe’s free Basic plan makes guides in the browser and shares them by link and embed. PDF, Word, HTML and Markdown exports start on Pro Personal, at $25 a seat a month billed yearly or $35 monthly, and Pro Team is $23 or $29 a seat from 5 seats.
Or both from one recording
PointerCam records your screen, your voice and your clicks once. The video opens with a close-up on each click, and the same clicks become a numbered guide, each step saying what you clicked, like Click “Billing”.
Export the video as MP4, WebM or GIF and the guide as PDF, Word, a web page or Markdown, on the free plan with a small mark. Studio removes it. PointerCam has no share links or team library: you keep the files and send them where your team already works.

An editor made for your first video
PointerCam opens a recording already finished: close-ups on your clicks, every click marked, ready to export. The editor starts in Simple, which shows what was done and the choices most videos make, one row each, like zoom strength, captions or the background.
The first time you open it, a short tour points out each part. When you want more, Pro lays out every setting, and ⌘K finds any of them by what it changes or by a problem you type, like “silence”.

Questions
What people ask.
Scribe, if the SOP is a list of steps people follow while they work: it captures each click as a step with a screenshot. Loom, if the process needs explaining out loud. PointerCam makes the written steps and a video from one recording.
