Scribe vs Tango

Scribe or Tango: two ways to write the steps.

Scribe and Tango both capture your clicks as a step-by-step guide with screenshots, keep it in their cloud and share it by link or embed. They differ in price, in what the free plan allows and in what they export. PointerCam, which we make, makes the guide and a video from one recording and keeps both as files.

Choose Scribe if

  • You want Word export as well as PDF, HTML and Markdown.
  • You want on-screen walkthroughs on the free plan, or guides made from work already done, with AI autocapture.
  • Your team works in Confluence, or needs translations and enforced redaction on Enterprise.

Choose Tango if

  • You are one or two people paying yearly: Tango Pro is $22 a user a month, and Scribe Pro Personal $25.
  • A small team shares a few guides for free. Tango’s free plan has 5 shared workflows and up to 10 people in a workspace.
  • You need branching workflows, pins inside your apps or automations, on Enterprise.

Choose PointerCam if

  • You also want a screen video with a close-up on each click, from the same recording.
  • You want PDF and Word without paying. PointerCam exports both on the free plan, with a small mark.
  • You’re new to editing video. The editor opens in Simple, with the close-ups already placed and the video ready to export.
  • You’d rather keep guides as files on your computer, with no account.

Two tools for the same job

Both record what you click in the browser and turn it into a guide: a screenshot for each step and a line saying what to do, written for you. Both keep guides in their cloud, share them by link or embed, capture desktop apps on their paid plans, and offer single sign-on and redaction of personal data for larger companies.

Free plans and prices

Scribe’s free Basic plan makes guides in the browser and shares them by link and embed, with on-screen walkthroughs. Pro Personal is $25 a seat a month billed yearly or $35 monthly, and Pro Team $23 or $29 a seat from 5 seats.

Tango’s free plan has 5 shared workflows, captured in the browser, for up to 10 people. Pro is $22 a user a month billed yearly or $30 monthly for one or two users, and $15 or $20 a user from 3 users.

Where they differ

Scribe exports to Word as well as PDF, HTML and Markdown, works with Confluence on Pro, and lists on-screen walkthroughs and AI autocapture on every plan.

Tango sends on-screen guidance on Pro and adds pins, automations and workflows with several paths on Enterprise. It can also turn a workflow into an embeddable video.

A third option, with video

PointerCam records your screen and your voice once. Every click becomes a numbered step that already says what you clicked, like Click “Billing”, and the same recording becomes a video with a close-up on each click.

Export the guide as PDF, Word, a web page or Markdown on the free plan, with a small mark that Studio removes. PointerCam has no workspace or hosting: you keep the files and put them where your team already keeps its documents.

The guide editor, in Simple

PointerCam’s guide editor, opened on the same recording as the video.

An editor made for your first video

PointerCam opens a recording already finished: close-ups on your clicks, every click marked, ready to export. The editor starts in Simple, which shows what was done and the choices most videos make, one row each, like zoom strength, captions or the background.

The first time you open it, a short tour points out each part. When you want more, Pro lays out every setting, and ⌘K finds any of them by what it changes or by a problem you type, like “silence”.
