PointerCam vs Tella
A Tella alternative with a free plan.
Tella records your screen and camera, edits by transcript and shares by link, with a 7-day trial and no free plan. PointerCam places close-ups on your clicks too, has a free plan, keeps recordings on your computer, and turns the same take into a step-by-step guide.
Choose Tella if
- You share by link, with comments, reactions, chapters and viewer analytics.
- You edit by transcript, with silences and filler words taken out, or by asking Tella’s AI editor in the sidebar.
- You record any app on Windows. Tella has apps for Mac and Windows, a Chrome extension and a recorder in the browser.
- You record long sessions: one Tella clip runs to 6 hours.
Choose PointerCam if
- You want a free plan. Tella has a 7-day trial of Pro, and PointerCam’s free plan exports 10-minute videos at up to 1080p, as many as you like.
- You also need the written steps, as PDF, Word, a web page or Markdown, from the same recording.
- You’re new to editing video. The editor opens in Simple, with the close-ups already placed and the video ready to export.
- You’d rather keep the video as a file on your computer, with no account and nothing uploaded.
- You pay yearly: Studio is $10 a month that way, Tella Pro $13.
- You pay month to month: Studio is $20 a month, Tella Pro $26.

Start free, and stay free
Tella has two plans after its 7-day trial: Pro at $13 a user a month billed yearly or $26 monthly, and Premium at $19 or $39, which adds a custom domain, removes Tella’s branding from video pages and exports 60 fps at any length.
PointerCam’s free plan has the same editor as Studio. Videos run up to 10 minutes and export at up to 1080p with a small PointerCam mark, and guides have no length limit. Studio removes the mark and the limits, and a pass is $9 for 7 days, paid once.
One recording, a video and a guide
Every click in a PointerCam recording also becomes a numbered step in a guide: a close-up of the screen with a box round what you pressed, and a line that already says what you clicked, like Click “Billing”. Export it as PDF, Word, a web page or Markdown.
Tella can make documents from your videos with AI, on every plan.

An editor made for your first video
PointerCam opens a recording already finished: close-ups on your clicks, every click marked, ready to export. The editor starts in Simple, which shows what was done and the choices most videos make, one row each, like zoom strength, captions or the background.
The first time you open it, a short tour points out each part. When you want more, Pro lays out every setting, and ⌘K finds any of them by what it changes or by a problem you type, like “silence”.

A file you keep
A Tella video lives on Tella: its page, its embed and its analytics come from there, and you can download the video, its clips and its subtitles.
PointerCam records, edits and exports on your computer, and there is no PointerCam server that could receive a recording. You send the MP4, WebM or GIF yourself, which also means PointerCam has no share page, comments or view counts.
Where Tella is ahead
Tella does several things PointerCam does not: editing by transcript, an AI editor you talk to, a teleprompter, share pages with comments, chapters and analytics, apps for Windows, and clips of up to six hours.
If your videos are shared as links and edited by their words, Tella is the better pick. If you want a free plan, a guide from the same take, or the file on your computer, PointerCam is.
